About

Lloyds of Avalon Confectionary, centrally located in the heart of Avalon has been a Catalina tradition for over 80 years.

In 1938, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Butts opened a candy shop at this location, and in 1941 named it in honor of the son Lloyd who fought proudly in World War II.

In 1941, the iconic salt water taffy-pulling machine was installed in the front window, charming and mesmerizing generations of visitors, and it still does to this day.

You can stand in the very same spot that Marilyn Monroe did (before she became a Hollywood starlet) to watch the taffy go round and round. Marilyn lived in Avalon and was known to visit Lloyds for treats. Many of the assorted sweets are made right on site in the upstairs Confectionary Studio.

Above the shoppe, in his Confectionary Studio, Chef, Joe Avalon, directs the fashioning of fresh daily delights. Some items included along with the popular and famous Lloyds Salt Water Taffy, are fresh bakery items, gourmet candy apples, fudge and more. Its here in the studio that the taffy is “cooked” and then run through the wrapper machine after it’s been “pulled” out in the shoppe front window.
